So, I was starting her up after a very cold night, with a lot of thick frost on all the windows, including the back window. I turned on the rear window defroster switch on my climate control, and guess what - IT DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING because my rear window has NO DEFROSTER BARS in it, and it's not hooked to electrical connectors.

Did I really just buy a $40,000 truck with the SLE package and climate control, and NOT get rear window defroster that almost every car made gets?

Am I missing something here?

I ended up without heated mirrors. These Option packages drive you nuts. Have to buy two redundant packages to get what you want, I guess. Looks like replacing mirrors, now, will cost me $300 plus labor.

Yup, you bought one without a rear window defroster. That's one thing I always checked for when buying a pickup. Either that or a slider rear window.

I'm going to pursue this with GM and make some noise. This option package makes absolutely no sense. I opted for an SLE, and that vehicle has climate control, which CLEARLY has rear window defogger operation. Then, to not add the other part of the defogger is simply neglect. In addressing the de-fogging part of the climate control system description, the owners manual has a little paragraph below the explanation of the defogger operation that says "be careful to not use a razor or sharp objects on the rear window because it could damage the heating elements......"

I don't have those heating elements. I firmly believe this is a screw-up by GM

You may be correct. But, getting the SLE package with Climate Control, doesn't necessarily get you a rear window defroster. Climate Control is for the interior heat only. It depends on those dog gone package options with or without rear window defroster. Look at your build spec sheet if you still have it, and see if rear window defogger is there. Just a suggestion, befor going back to the dealer ranting and raving. Good luck.

etcthorne,

If you would like for us to check into the build options of the vehicle, don't hesitate to contact us here on the forum via private message (include the last 8 digits of the VIN of your truck).
