I just upgraded the radio in my 2012 Silverado to the factory 2012 navigation system from OEM auto parts. My truck has On Star and Bose. It work very well and the sound quality is much better that the stock radio.

I have 2 questions about its operation that I need help with.

1) When “Voice Guidance” comes on it does not mute the radio. Is the way it is suppose to work?

2) When I bring up the “HDD Music Menu” it does not have a “Folders/Playlist” option shown in the Navigation manual . It does have this option on the “USB Music Menu”. Is this option on your systems?

Any help will be appreciated.

Of you installed an OEM factory radio with navi and your truck is equipped with the needed wiring and plugs, you may need to take it to a dealer to have them reprogram the truck to recognize the upgrade.

Thanks for the reply.

All of the integrated functions like ON Star work just as if it were a factory install. The problems I noted above are all with in the Navigation unit its self not with the truck.

Since the radio you added didn't come with the truck. How does your computer know to mute when navi is talking? Think of your navi, am/fm/cd, onstar, bluetooth, etc as seperate units that must be managed to interact together. If this was an all in one unit you installed then everything would be working. You still have to tell the computer what you have added. I don't think it's plug and play.

The OnStar and the Bluetooth both mute the radio when making a receiving and making call as the both communicate directly with the radio over the truck CAN Bus. The radio and the navigation unit are both in the same box and do not require any external communication.

Update:
I updated the firmware in the navigation/radio unit and the radio will now mute. It turns out that I had old firmware that was buggy.

i never said the components where in a Separate box. But obviously one didn't know the other was there till it was reprogrammed as previously suggested. You obviously bought a navi unit that didn't have the onstar option turned on in the software. I'm glad it worked out for you.

Both OnStar and Blue tooth Muted the radio before the upgrade - it new OnStar was there.
