Hello Everyone,

I have 22,000 miles on my 2014 GMC SLE long bed. Love the truck but... My fuel mileage dropped from 21 MPG highway after the emissions recall (due to excessive idle engine fire) was performed.

I'm now getting 16.2 to 17.1 and puff of black smoke after start up. My dealer down loaded the NEW program AGAIN last week, but it has not helped the MPG.

I've talked with other Sierra owners that said they are having the same issues...any advice??

Hello Knothead,

I’m sorry to hear that you are concerned with your truck. MPG can be affected by multiple factors, therefore, my advice would be to check out this website; http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/factors.shtml. This contains great information about the factors that may result in lower fuel economy with your vehicle. Also, if you would like me to reach out to the dealership to look into your situation further I would be happy to. Let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with.

maybe your dealer needs to reload that program??? I'd take it back for sure.

Reminds me of the old V8,6,4 from Cadillac. They ended up disabling that feature to prevent the fires, makes me wonder if the "new flash" disabled the cylinder deactivation and now you are getting the mileage of the normal V8. Your mileage is the same as I am getting in my 2012 without that feature.

Knothead, did you get any resolution to this problem? Got an update for us?

I have the 2014 sierra, I bought it back in October and the sticker said 21 Mpg but i never got that i average 15-16 is this normal. i too had the recall thing done and i have notice the 4cyl green light doesn't come on any more.

Sounds more and more like the "fix" was just disabling the cylinder deactivation feature, or at least greatly reducing the amount of time it spends in that mode. My 2012 with the 4.8L is getting 16 - 18mpg without the cylinder deactivation feature.

My 2014 regular cab short bed 4X4 with V6 is getting around 15-16 MPG. It now has about 800 miles on it so I may see an improvement as the motor breaks in. Warmer weather may improve mileage slightly too. My best mileage on a trip was 19 mpg. I think the mpg rating for the truck is too high!
