Hope someone can help me make a good decision. I am ready to pull the trigger on a new 2014 Sierra SLT. I will pull a large trailer once or twice a week at most. Trailer loaded will reach 9000 lbs +/-. The only rear axle ratio available is the 3.42. Can this truck handle this trailer on a long term basis. Specs say max trailering is 9600 lbs with a 3.42. I want a 3.73 but they are not available and I am told GM has stopped production. I don't want to run my truck at max too often and risk long term damage. Comments? Does this truck have the balls to handle this with ease? You guys are the pro's, help me out here.

my first reaction would be no. by the time you add a passenger or 2 and other stuff, you've maxed out the truck. you need to consider the braking ability of the truck too.

if you really like the truck, get it and have an independent shop swap out the ring and pinion. I'd go with a 4.11 set.
