Hello:

My daughter has a 2017 Acadia SLT (carryover model from previous year) with a whirring noise coming from the drivetrain at mid rpms/speeds (~40mph).

Local GMC dealer is deaf, of course ("no unusual noises heard on road test").

Anybody familiar with this? I searched the forum and came up with a couple of posts but they didn't seem to be the same description as hers.

Do a google search and see if there is a TSB about it or something else out there. The only experience I have is from a 2003 Sierra Denali AWD, that had what I would describe as a whine, but could be similar to what your daughter has. It was addressed by a TSB recommending changing the front driveshaft if I recall correctly. Anyway, in the end, the front driveshaft was replaced and the noise was slightly less, but still present. Happened at mid rpms and was more pronounced after no throttle (coasting) and then very light application of throttle.

My 2012 GMC Sierra also had a driveline whine while in 4WD under load and light acceleration. Dealer said it was "normal operating noise", until they found a TSB about transfer case linkage transmitting noise into the cabin. Again, performed the TSB with no significant change. I ended up putting 150K miles on the 2012 with no problems. The Denali is still going at 198K miles. No longer own either vehicle, but I know the person that owns the Denali.
