So we just bought a 96 Savana with 174k on it and recently had a tune up, transmission fluid and filter change and fuel filter change on it. The previous owner had the transmission rebuilt at 100k. Everything seems to be running okay with it. We will be using this van as our daily driver for our big family and want to use it as efficiently as possible. I've come across different suggestions about driving this van in the city on 3rd gear in the city to relieve stress on the transmission. Is this what you would recommend or am I going to be okay with driving it on D (4th/OD)? I know that eventually this thing will probably need another transmission rebuild but I would like extend this time as much as I could. Thanks for your feedback.
