Hey guys,
I am having an issue with the 4wd on my 2000 Sierra. I had the auto 4wd on while driving to work in the rain yesterday and as I pulled in the parking spot at work I pressed the 2Hi button and for some reason the 4Lo button started flashing and when I stopped in the parking spot I felt it clunk into 4Lo and pressing any other button did nothing at all. After lots of forum surfing at work I put the truck in neutral and pressed the 2Hi button and after about 3 seconds it clunked into gear. I was concerned about it jumping around again so I pulled the 4wd fuse and the service 4wd indicator came on. I am going to change the actuator because it looks like it has been leaked on by oil and coolant over the years but while I wait for it to arrive is it safe to drive for a week or so with the 4wd fuse out and the Service 4wd indicator on? I have never had issues with my 4wd before so this is new territory for me. I do not want to take the risk that it will jump to 4Lo like it did at work. That would be very bad.

I can't say for certain, but I would assume that it would be OK to drive it without the fuse for a while. All I would suggest is that you make sure that is the only fuse that powers the actuator. I agree, popping itself into 4 low would not be a good thing.
