4x4 issues seem wet weather related

Hi, I have a 2005 sierra with electronic 4x4 control and am having wet weather related issues. The four high indicator will stay lit but the front wheels are not engaging. Seems to happen during poor weather conditions when the option is needed most. In dry weather hot or cold the system works flawlessly. Any ideas as to why the moisture is causing this issue and how to prevent it. Thanks
