Explain why GMC doesn't have a light in the dash to show 4X4 is engaged? All there is on mine is a tiny light on the knob to designate what position you are in? The knob is obscured with the steering wheel and shift lever. Every other truck I owned had a light in the speedometer or tack showing when 4X4 was engaged? Now there is a position for it in the book but the deeler said mine isnt wired for it? My buddy that gust bought a 2104 2500HD and paid $68,000 is the same? No Light ? Odd?

4x4 light

my 2011 actually had on...it died! Same deal as you; tough to see indicator on the shift knob.
So I went to the dealer to hear the typical BS. First question was "are you sure you had a light"? The service rep then said the tech was able to activate the light with his scan tool...WTF!!! He went on to say it would more than likely be a major job to diagnose, having to remove the dash, gauges, etc. I am all set with that, thanks. Fix one problem and create 6 more!!!

I've got a 2013 2500HD and I've said the same thing as you. I can't believe they didn't notice this issue and fix it. It really pisses me off for the amount of money we spend buying them. From what it seems, they still haven't addressed the issue. At least if they had placed the knob was up on the left side you might be able to see that "LITTLE" dim light they gave us to see. Glad to see that I'm not the only person that noticed this.

Curt.

Indicator in console

I had this very question as well. Actually blows me away they don't put an indicator some place.

Having said that, I know someone with a 2015 and they added a line item within the info section on the on screen / in dash system that you can set the view on and it displays the current 4x4 status. Has anyone seen this? Wondering if the 2014 couldn't be upgraded with this feature. Guessing it's all software related?
