I really goofed up this time.
Our 76' Sierra has dual saddlebag gas tanks, one which we don't use because it has rust in the tank. I accidentally switched the tank over at some point and ran some rusty 6-8 year old gas through the beast. It sputtered and stopped running, then later i found the problem and switched the tanks back over.
I'm not a mechanic, but an aspiring one. I replaced the fuel filter, put some sea foam and fresh gas in the good tank, and tinkered with the fuel line. I also ran some carburetor cleaner through the intake of the carburetor. I checked to see if the fuel pump was still working, put the end of the disconnected fuel line in a bucket and turned the key. It drizzled some gas in the bucket, but not much.
The truck will run, but it will cut out and die constantly. The funny thing is, i thought i had it fixed at one point, ran it successfully to the gas station and back. But now it still dies and conks out. Carburetor issue? Fuel pump? I'd appreciate your help if you have any suggestions. I'm reluctant to take it to my mechanic, who usually works on the truck. Trying to learn and fix this myself.
