89 GMC Sierra c2500 radio?

When I bought this truck I knew it had no Radio. But after looking at it it looks like the tape receiver is the only thing missing but the radio display/clock (which is separate) will not light up or anything. I pulled the clock/radio out and everything appears to be fine although there are 2 wire plugs that arent being used. I know little to nothing about car radios/electronics especialy this truck. So what im asking is does anyone know if i need the tape receiver/player for the display for work?
I've also checked all the fuses and their ok.

If I recall correctly, yes. There is a separate tuner that mounts above the gas pedal. You have a harnesses that run from the tuner to the display area above the climate controls, and then harnesses that run to the center where the radio cassette typically is. I think the best option is to purchase a new after market radio.
