89 GMC surb engine dies after putting in gear

I have an 89 GMC Surb (gas/fuel injected) that goes dead after starting/putting in gear (forward or reverse). If I give it gas as soon as the gear is engaged it will keep running. If I don't the engine dies. Any suggestions to what the problem might be?

My sub did the same thing. I thought it was the electronic vacuum that the distibuter vacuum goes to was the problem but it eded up being the vacuum from the distibuter. you can block the vacuum lines all together to fix it temporely but your egine light will come on.
