Trying to replace the drivers side brake backing plate for my 89 Suburban 4x4. I've spent the past week searching the U.S., and I can't find one. Can I use a brake backing plate from a 2wd? How about from a 90 or newer? I've got mixed answers from the "experts". Original part # is 14055279. Thanks for the help.

1. As long as your bolt pattern to the axle hub is the same and you replace both LH and RH sides with the same backing plate.
2. Then make sure that the shoes from your '89 are going to line up with the shaped guide pads on the backing plate.
3. That your brake drum is not going to interfer with the backing plate
4. That all your brake hardware (springs, pins, cylinders etc) is going to mount or attach as required.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use a different backing plate. There should not be any difference between a 2WD and 4X4 as they both use the same differential (rear end).
