Please Help,

My brakes had felt like they were hanging up for a while. I noticed that my front wheels were always hot, hotter than I felt should be. Example is even in a torrential downpour the front wheels are bone dry. Anyway, when I am braking it feels like the brakes are grabbing more than they should. Hard to explain so stay with me, the pedal seems ok just can tell brakes grabbing too hard at times. Like if going slow and slowly braking will lock up and at times when start to go I am held back for a second then can feel a pop and I am released. In addition, when going slow and braking could hear squealer/grind. So I replaced the front Calipers, rotors, and pads. I bled the lines, which took forever and side note - left cover off reservoir and fluid dumped out of it (is that normal cause I never had a vehicle do that?) So bled lines and pedal feels good, but same problem still occurring. The locking up at stops does not seem to be happening as bad, but everything else is the same. Any help is greatly appreciated (Molson you out there buddy) I have gotten the hand of how to work the pedal, but I am concerned about the wife driving it you know.

Thanks.

As barks mentioned, please check your back brakes. The drums on the 96 when they are worn or the brake retaining springs pins corrode and break will cause the issues you have described.

Post back and let see about getting your Jimmy running 100% again soon.

Drive and get brakes hot. Jack up front end( both sides) Start tk pump brake 3 or 4 times stut off tk. Spin front wheels and feel if one or both are draging. If one or both is draging open bleeder valve on caliper. If it now spins free replace brake hose. If still bindes check caliper slides and pads to bracket to see if they slide ok. If slides and pads are NOT stuck replace caliper. FYI brake hoses go bad in side all the time and very comon on your model tk.

Good luck

Thanks guys I will check the back ones as soon as time and weather permit. Sure would be nice to know someone with a nice garage perhaps with a lift in it:D. I will share the results then.

I had similar issues with my Cougar and it was the Brake Master Cylinder that was sticking. If you're sure the hoses are okay (it wouldn't hurt to replace them anyway) then try the master cylinder.
