I have a 96 jimmy 4x4 with all wheel drive. When I crowd the gas the front diff starts skipping like the ring and pinion are bad. After checking around (it has the 342 gu6 gear set) it seems these models had problems with the aluminum cased set-up like I have. So I bought some new gears and an istallation kit (bearings and such) to replace them.

The problem I'm having now is getting the diff out of the rig. The book I bought say just undo the (outer) axles, remove the 4 bolts holding it in,raise it up and twist in and it will fall right out. When you look at the setup it seems pretty cut and dry. But it won't come out! It almost does but not all the way.

Does anyone have any more info or advice on how to get this diff out? Any bone you guys could throw me would be greatly appreciated!!

I tried that and it let the front bushing ear drop some but not enough,it still hits the cross frame. Someone told me I had to remove the right side axle tube also. Is this correct and if so does it just unbolt and slide out inner axle and all?

If they hadn't welded the darn brackets to the frame this would be a piece of cake!
