My '96 Jimmy has no issues with blowing either hot or cold, but does have issues with either hot or cold air not coming out of the dash vents, even with fan on 'high'.

A couple of weeks ago I replaced the air filter, and upon removal of the air box, I found about a gallon of acorn hulls down in the bottom of it. Evidently a rodent/squirrel had used it as a nut cache. Naturally, i dumped the stuff out but it got me wondering if there is a passageway from there into the heating/cooling ducts that would permit said rodent to migrate into them and deposit stuff that would clog them. Secondly, is there a way to dis-member that system to clean them or further investigate the cause of restricted air flow? Enough heat comes out the floor and windshield vents so as to let me live with it, but air flow through them is greatly reduced also.

Thanks.

This was a common problem for cars where I grew up. Out in the rural area, we all drove older cars parked on farms. Squirrels, rats and other rodents messing with our cars was frequent. I would say this is most likely a rat's nest that was made in the vents somewhere. Since you've figured out that it's not just one vent, its all the dash vents, that makes the nest pretty deep in the dash. You'll have to take all of it apart.

Do a google search for easy access to the vent selector motor, or something to that effect. See if you can locate it, and look in that area for easy access. You may get lucky and find away to clean it out without having to take apart the entire dashboard.
