Hey Guys
I have a 1997 GMC 1500 Z-71 with a 5.7. It has 200k miles on it and it burns oil so fast that the oil is dang near self changing. It files plugs about every 2 weeks on cylinders 1,3,5 and 7. I can get about 2 weeks worth of driving out of a set of plugs before I have to pull the plugs and sand blast them clean and reinstall. Once I do this the truck runs awesome with great power and pick up. It doesn't smoke excessively except a little on initial start up. I'm thinking my valve stem seals are shot and want to replace them myself. My question is how big and bad of a job is this and have any of you done this repair? I'm thinking it should be just getting each cylinder on TDC and pressureizing the cylinder, pull the rocker arm and pulling the old seal off and replacing it and reinstall the rocker arm repeating on each cylinder. Am I on the right track or way off underestimating the difficulty of this job?
Thanks in advance for the help.
