97 jimmy. trans slippage. no overdrive. and key won't release when its turned off

Coming off a light this morning. trans slipped then eng lite cameon and when i went to shut it off. the key is stuck. help please. also truck will not shift in to overdrive. all forward gears.except 1st are very spongy.but have to click into 1st for it not to slip bad. anyone? since this was instantanious i wonder if its trans at all. it went from normal to slipping as soon as the engine lite came on.is it an electrical or computer/sensor problem?

Best to have your Jimmy scanned for the DTC codes that was indicated on you MIL coming on. It might as be as simple as a bad TPS that's is causing your transmission issue.

As for the keys not coming out from your ignition switch. There should be instruction to over ride that in your owner's manual.

due to it happening simultaniously with the engine light coming on leads me to agree with you 100%. very strange. usually most trans problems give you a bit of notice befor the slippage like i have. when put in first it takes off fine. almost in od where it usually is. its like it has a 2500 stall converter in it. also no od now. im taking to my mechanic so he can code it tomorow. i hope you are correct on something simple like tps. is there some sort of sensor that controls when the converter kicks in as well? or gear selection? thnx
