'97 Sonoma goes completely "DEAD" when I go from "Ignition On" to "Start"

My '97 Sonoma 4wd / 4.3 vortec / 5 spd manual truck goes completely dead when I turn the ignition key from the "On" position to "Start", to crank the engine. The first time I do this and return to the "On" position, the lights come back on and the dash lights up as normal; BUT, when I try it a second time, the entire truck goes dead and STAYS DEAD, and some really lame buzzer starts to buzz and won't shut off no matter what.

The truck was running and operating perfectly until I parked it for an hour, and when I returned this was the condition. The truck had been locked and there was no sign of any tampering, anywhere.

Chances are that your ignition switch has gone bad or your wire harness from your ignition switch has a short in it. 95% of the time it's going to be your ignition switch and will need to be replaced, you can pick a new ignition switch at Auto Zone and they will have the step by step instructions for you to swap it out with common tolls.

Good luck and be safe. ;)
