Hey,

I have 1997 Suburban k1500. About 8 months ago I installed new leaf springs and hangers with all new bolts including u-bolts, plates, etc. A few months before that I installed new shocks in the front and rear.

A couple months after the leaf springs were installed, I started noticing a lot of squeaking every time the car got rocked. This happens on bumps but sometimes just getting in and out of the truck. I was planning on removing the springs and greasing the bolts but after doing some reading I am not sure it will fix the prob. PLEASE HELP!

I am fairly new to working on my own car but I thoroughly enjoy it and can't bring myself to pay for these easy fixes.

Answer to my own question

I went ahead and removed the springs and shocks, cleaned them and greased all the bolts as well as treated the springs with a Rustoleum undercoating. Noises seem to be fixed and I am happy with the results.

I used to have the same issue with my jimmy when i have it parked to long, after a few hours they get quiet again. But when they don't, I simply jack up the back to hang the back axle so the leafs just hang then i use a U joint needle grease fitting to get grease between the leafs. I use Marine grease rather then the normal grease used.

Take note that the Marine grease can also be used for your U joints and ball joints and will last longer then normal grease used cause they have a higher water resistance then regular grease making them last longer, causing your moving parts to last longer.

Keep up the great work and keep us posted
