1998 GMC Jimmy Ignition trouble... we have replaced the ignition switch twice (once in 99 and in 05)
Would like to save money and do it myself... I was able to get the ignition switch in the "ACCESSORY on" position and can get it to start now... but don't want to shut it off because I am afraid we won't be able to get it back on before we change it out... So my questions are:
1. what tools do I need to replace the parts?
2. what parts do I replace? lock cylinder? electrical wires? ignition coil?
3. any other advice or information I need to know to get this back in working order?
PS... I have the repair manual book but I couldn't find anything on the ignition switch itself... thanks for any and all help, it is appreciated... !!!!
I am not sure if it is the anti theft mechanism or what... this is what happens... put in the key, you have to wiggle the ignition switch in and out because it catches and jiggle the steering wheel all at the same time to get it to start... it has been that way for years... maybe 3yrs... then one day we went to start it... and the key would not turn at ALL no matter how much wiggle and jiggle you did... my dad used pliers to get it in the "on position" so we can change it out... there are no warning lights or any other indicators showing... I have been told that this vehivle type has this issue????? not sure what to do... if it is the anti theft... can we bypass it??? B/C if I buy a new lock cylinder it may happen again in the future... HELP!!!???
