98 GMC Jimmy is blowing a nasty pancake syrup smell from the heater vents.?

I have a 98 GMC Jimmy that is blowing a film over the windshield when the heater is turned on. It smell kind of sweet yet nasty if that makes any since. 3 yrs ago it was doing the same thing and i was told it was the heater core, so i had it replaced. Now it's doing it again. My floor boards are not getting wet or anything like that. can any1 give me any advise?
could the fact that the vehicle has been parked all summer? I only drive this vehicle during winter months.

sounds like the heater core might be bad again. have a pressure test done to see if there is a leak in the cooling system.

I have read that not enough anti freeze could cause the heater core to "break".Could someone explain this please.
