I have had a problem with the heater control door switching. Mostly I just have a bad whistle and the air always comes out the same place. I finally had the time to dig deeper into the problem. What I found was the little plastic doo-hicky that mounts on the door that also has attaches to the linkage piece which connects to the pull-off, that piece is very broken. I went out back to the parts truck and the same piece is broken the same way. My question here is, is there a replacement part that is better, a part number, or anything that can help fix this permanently.

Sorry to hear about this! It does sound you're making progress with your discoveries in the situation. If you take your vehicle to a GM dealer, they can further diagnose your vehicle and lead you in the right direction. If you have any questions or need me to locate you a dealership, please let me know. Good luck and thank you!

What about using JB Weld. Sometimes you can reinforce with metal and then apply the epoxy.

Here is what my problem was and the fix I used;

My problem ended up being a real easy fix. Remove the glove box. Remove the piece of the duct work that is on the left side of the glove box hole. Behind this you will see a small plastic part which is attached to the metal door that closes off the air flow to the vents. The plastic piece is attached to the door with one machine screw. Where this attaches will break and not allow the door to be pulled shut to shut off the air flow. My fix was simple, remove the screw, find a washer that is large enough to cover the edge of the plastic, tighten the whole thing back down carefull not to crush the plastic. Make sure if you use a different screw that it is not too long or it will not allow the door to open all the way and shut off the air flow to the other direction. It sounds a little confusing, but when you see in there it is very easy to see the problem and the fix too.
