Air conditioning works fine at higher revs on the highway but if I stop at a light the a/c will sometimes stop working until I speed up again, any thoughts !. The truck is a 2003 GMC Sieara 1500 with a 4.8 L Engine.

I would put a set of gages on the AC system 1st and see what you get.

Sounds like your AC R-134A system needs to be topped off. There is enough that the AC is working but not enough in the system to pressurize the system for best result.

There are recharge kits but i would stay away from them due to the possibility of over charging. If you are going to go this route and buy the recharge kit, add the R-134A a small amount at a time by opening the valve and then closing it not to over fill and rev the engine to 1500 RPM and with a thermometer at your air vent. Note the temperature every 5 min then add more if it's still not cold enough.

You should stop when you can get the system to ready 15"C - 60"F on a really hot day (25"C - 75"F). Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

Note over charging will cause damage to the system and performance will be less then perfect.

Thanks for the great info, I'll do as you say and let you knoe what happens !
