? about Lifting

Hey. I got a 1996 Jimmy slt for christmas and I'm trying to get it running and looking good right from the start. I just bought parts for the whole front suspension that should be in the mail as ...i type. :p But I was wondering about lifting my Jimmy. I'm not sure if I'd rather lift 2 or 4 inches. And I'd like to know the benefits, drawbacks and costs of the two. Also, could I install it myself?

not too many drawbacks to lifting it, can't take corners as fast little harder to get into, pluses more ground clearance you can fit bigger tires but if you get bigger tires that could thow off off your speedometer possibly little less gas milage depending on how big of tire you get depends on what your looking for in a lift on how big you should go if u just want it for a look could just get a body lift cheaper then getting everything for a full-on lift prices vary depending on what kind you get check out jegs.com summitracing.com jcwhitney.com should be able to find everything you're looking for at one of those places
 
Thanks for the reply. I'm not really looking for bigger tires, and I take corners slow anyway so I think a body lift would be exactly what I'm looking for. So I guess I'll look at 2 inch body lifts and see what I come up with. If you have any suggestions or brands to stay away from, it would be really helpful. I'm pretty much clueless on this subject if you can't tell...Thanks again!
 
If you want to achieve a 11/2"-2" lift it is fairly easy to do, economical, and will not cause front end parts to wear prematurely. You or an alignment guy can crank the torsion bars to get about 11/2" of lift for the front but no more than that. You can get an add-a-leaf and/or longer shakles for the rear and go 2-3". You can most likely fit 31/10.5/15 tires which look pretty good on these trucks. If you want more than 2" of lift you will have to get more in depth and will spend a lot more $$$.
