ABS sensor

I replaced the left abs sensor because I accidentally broke the cable doing upper and lower ball joints, so now the left side abs kicks in before the right side, I put the same size shim as the old one had, what did I do wrong....I am new to GMC Jimmy's..... mine is a 1998 GMC Jimmy 2 door 4 wd 4.3.
