I have a 2001 GMC jimmy that is stuck in 4 wheel drive, there any mechanics out there know what might be wrong with it?

4wheel drive cable selector is broken. The acid from the battery chews it up and it snaps. Hope this helps.

Check the vacuum switch on top of the transfer-case. It's located on the driver's side and there are three vacuum lines connected to it. You can disconnect the three vacuum lines and if your 4wd actuator at the front differential disengage the 4wd, then it's going to be a simple fix by replacing the vacuum switch. You can pick it up for around $25.00 at Napa or Auto Zone and takes about 20 min to replace and it's common for the switch to go bad so pick up a spare and leave it in the glove box.

With the push button, you should be able to hear the shift actuator work on the transfer-case. If you don't hear the actuator (transfer case encoder motor) working, check the fuse and the wire harness. Look for any damages due to corrosion and repair or replace any damaged parts. At worst, your going to have to replace the transfer-case encoder motor.

Good luck and keep us all posted, but i am leaning towards the vacuum switch.
