2008 Denali, the fog lights turn off when the high beams are on. Doesnt make any sense because when you activate your high beams you are looking for maximum light output. Anyways is there a way to bypass the wiring for that perhaps behind the fog light switch or right at the fog light/high beam assembly?
Thanks

Lights

I was thinking the same thing.
Check out some of the dealers on Ebay.
They offer a kit to turn all the lights on.

Not a tough thing, just a bit of wiring.
Good Luck.

Did a little bit of searching and couldn't find that kit. Do you know what it's called? I may give that a try but that'll probably be last resort.

high beams in fog?

I've never found it better running high beams in fog? Same with heavy snow, fogs and low beams are the only way to go.

you may try contacting ' painless performance products ' see if they have a kit .they have a nice kit the laeves low beams on when the highs are turned on

Totally agree with kobrak on this one. The fog lights themselves dont put out a lot of light and i can honestly say they probably wouldnt do jack all with the high beams on. If your high beams are that poor, instead of investing a bunch of money into a kit to allow your fog lights on at the same time I would just invest in a set of good headlights and save urself the time, trouble and money on trying to bypass the high beam/fog light issue.

Regardless of what my purpose may be even if it's useless, it simply comes down to a matter of preference. This site is full of people doing odd things to their vehicles cause they like being unique.

Anyways I did some more searching online and found another forum with step by step instructions on how to bypass this feature involving one of the relays. I'll try it out when I get a chance and give feedback when I'm done.

Regardless of my reason it just comes down to a matter of preference. My fog lights are pretty intense and light up the road by themselves and blinds anyone I pass so I can only run them outside of the city anyways. But either way I figured out how to do it by grounding out one of the relays to keep them from kicking off when I activate the high beams. Thanks for all the input though.

Already Has This Feature!!

My '08 GMC came from the factory where the low beams STAY ON w/ the high beams!!

I don't see any advantage either of havin' the fog lights on w/ the high beams.

Its not that we want the fog lights to only come on with the high beams, we just dont want them to shut off when we turn on the hi beams. It does shine alot more light, just pull back on the low/hi lever and you will see.

You might want to check your state laws regarding front lighting. Only 4 lights in combo in some states. So brights and dims and fog or driving in combo gets you a ticket in Texas for sure. Wire driving with a toggle and paid the price.

Did anyone ever figure out how to allow the fog light on a 2000 envoy to remain on regardless of low or high beam operation?

I just upgraded Fog, Low and High with new HID lighting kits. 3000K, 6000K and 8000K
One of the oem low bulbs failed, the other is rather dim compared with the new electronics.

Sure is nice to be able to see while driving after dark

When running 6K HID's the foglights turned on in conjunction with the highbeams seems to make a difference, especially on dark highways with steep ditches. The fogs tend to spread out into the ditches more.

The oem fog light aren't a legal issue and they are very low and only illuminate a very narrow section of the road way.

Any one know where I can get a free schematic for a 2000 envoy?

How I bypassed fog light turning off with high beams

I have a 2001 GMC Sierra and had the same issue. On the original setup from GM, the fog lights come on with the park lights and with the low beams. When switched to high beams the fog lights turn off. the reason this happens is the high beams use an independent ground to the low beam therefore you loose the ground side of your fog light relay trigger. You can simply run a wire from terminal 86 of your fog light relay to a toggle switch to ground. Turn on your headlights on low beam and push the OEM button for the fog lights. When you turn on your high beams, flip the toggle switch and your fog lights will come on with your high beams. I just got this going on my GMC Sierra and will run a nice toggle next to my headlight switch. I am going to use an illuminated toggle so I can tell when I leave the switch on.

I installed HID lights in Low, High and Fog so,I wanted to have the fogs stay on with the HI beam. With the HID lights the fogs really do make a difference, so for the fix I wired in a simple relay to combat this problem.

bypassing auto shut off of driving lights when brights are activated

GM uses a switched ground, even when you hit your brights your low beams shut off, if you ground the negative wire on the lights they will not shut off with bright light activation, same goes with driving lights, try grounding the negative side and they should work. be sure you do not ground the wire going to the switch, cut and seperate the ground wire and ground the light side.
