Automotive: does my 98 gmc jimmy actually pull with all four tires while in 4wd?

or is it only one fornt, one rear tire that pulls while in 4wd? and if so,,is it the left or right tires? thanks.

when it,s locked in 4 wheel drive all 4 wheels does the pulling.
 
Unless you have a pozzi chunk in both axles then you get one wheel per axle and it will be the wheel with the least amount of traction not always the left or the right. So to get all four wheels to have power you would need to put transfer case in 4hi or 4lo and have a pozzi chunk or a spool in both axles

Your front differential is an open diff and the wheel that would spin more would be the driver's side and the rear it would be the passenger side also in lees the rear end is a close differential.

If you have a PRO code in your golve box with G80, then your going to have a close rear end (Posi Track). In most cases your going to have an open end and the right rear wheel will spin first if it losses traction. Even in 4wd. :eek:

I had the same issues and swapped my rear end with G80 a few years back since i had over 250,000 miles on the old one. :eek:

Hope this helps and you should not need a G80 with 4wd unless you have a heavy foot or bad tires. ;)

Not true, 1 rear wheel and 1 front wheel unless you have a locker then both rear wheels.

Posi-Trak is a limited slip differential which are normally installed in cars. Trucks use a locking rear differential..A 4x4 without a G80 is only 1/2 a truck IMO. I will never buy one w/o a G80 and only did once. I then had the dealer install it.
