I have a 1994, GMC, K1500, 5.7 liter. When I bought the truck it started fine. Has a great motor & runs great. Over time it seemed as the starter kept getting loose. So I would tighten it down & it would start fine several more times. Took the starter off after getting aggravated to fix the problem and saw part of the tab was busted. I wandered, when I bought the truck, why they had 8mm starter bolts sitting in the door pocket. I know now that they tried to but an 8mm bolt into a 3/8-16 bolt hole. Which is what busted the block? Looks Like they tried to fix it but failed with a heili coil. I got some welding tips from a friend, but don't want to go that wrought if I don’t have to. I have seen a bell housing adapter which the starter bolts into and the starter. I can't find were they sell them??? Will this even work??? Can anyone give me a suggestion please???

Does the starter have a bolt that bolts to the other end of it, that goes into a bracket that connects to the block under the exhaust manifold?...the older ones do...You might get away with using that to hold the starter

No it does not have anywere to bolt anything to the block. I have looked into this as well. 2014-07-31 15.20.15.webp

is there anything left of the tab - on my 83 6.2 the threads went on the block I got by with drilling all the way through and running a longer bolt in with a nut on top. but with that being said I also have the factory rear strap from the starter to the block

Either weld it or retap new holes do not use lubrication cast has carbide in it and will f**k up the tap
