Broken hood cable

I was using pliers to open the hood but as of yesterday It wouldn't even open with the pliers so I pulled hard and snapped the cable. Do I need to take the grill off my 98 sierra or what is the best way to open manually?

I used to have a 98 sierra too, if you can pop the grill off you should be able to reach the hood latch, may have to man handle it a little bit but taking the grill off is your best bet.

The inside hood latch on my 2000 Sierra was getting hard to pull . I was afraid I would break off the lever. But spraying the latch mechanism under the hood with WD-40 made the latch work smoothly again.

I never had to do this with my 95, but you might be able to see the cable where it attaches to the latch if you look from underneath. On a previous vehicle I had, I was able to use pliers to grab the bare cable and pull it enough to release the hood.
