Looking at purchasing my first vehicle and have narrowed it down to the GMC Sierra 1500 extended cab. I have done quite a bit of research and have found that they range from 32000 to about 35000. I was wondering what would be a fair price to negotiate down to. I am having trouble figuring this stuff out and would appreciate any advice.

price quote

i allways use edmunds.com it has more of a fair value of vehichles than kelly blue book,i just bought a sierra sle extended cab,it was 33400.00,i got them down with 4500 rebate to 25800.00.good luck with your truck,i love mine

Thanks! Ya I cant wait. About another month and my 97 ranger will be gone.... long gone haha

ok i will tell you what most people don't know about new car prices..

Frist my tk msrp was 32k got it for 24k out the door.

Now already built in to the msrp price is what called dealer hold back runs 900 bucks per 30k have them take that off the price you pay becaues there getting that back already.

Also in the msrp price is what called floor incentives 3 to 5 hunderd bucks subract that as well.

And last have then subract there quartly rebate that your tk will give them 500 bucks.

What i do is ask for the dealer invoice subract all of the above to get to the real price. Then offer them 5 percent over thetre real cost. Most dealer will do it but not like it.

Or don't tell them you know about the above and let them get to there botom price then tell them about the above money. Don't let them fool you this is all true goggle it.

Good luck

one way to figure is take the msrp and subtract about 15-17% that will have you pretty close the their invoice cost. Then have them take off the any rebates, holdbacks, etc. Another thing to ask is if they have preferred price for the company you work for, I was able to get an additional $2300 off for this. My msrp was $42,744 and with the cash back, preferred pricing, holdbacks, got them down to $35,600.

Also, I try to make my deals at the end of the month. It costs them more money to carry vehicles over to a new month and do it late in the day close to closing time. You would be suprised how much more they come down in price to get out in time.

Alright so to start off I am in El Paso Texas for the summer and havnt had a chance to talk to the dealer myself yet. My parents stopped at a dealership in near Buffalo New York to see what the prices on the trucks were and how much they would come down.

For a new 2011 Sierra the MSRP was 35758 before dealer incentives and what not. With a 2027 GMC Incentive and the 4505 off, the dealer came to a price of 29000. I assume that the dealer hold back the floor incentive and the quarterly rebate were not takin off.

I guess what I am asking does this seem like a high price? This is my first time buying a new truck and need help. I appreciate any help possible.

You can go to truecar.com they will have the regional average prices for all cars recently sold in your area. And submit what you want in a truck and receive offers thru email. Print these local offers and take to your dealer to see what he can do on a comparable truck on his lot, also check delivery dates, longer on the lot better the deal.

No matter what deal you make there is always going to be someone who got a better deal.

just do your home work. Shop on line and call as many dealers as it takes to get the deal YOU can live with.
I live in NH and had to drive 2 1/2 hours to VT to buy my tk. But i saved 3500 bucks doing this so it paid to do it. Also me and the wife made a day out of it so it was fun.
Don't be afriad to drive.

My dad bought one from Jim Ball a few years ago (a GMC dealer up there near buffalo) and, and he was able to take a $29k truck and talk them down to about $18k. If it's jim ball your dealing with, they will work with you on prices. They got a good bunch of people up there.
