Before you get all excited with replacing the Cam, start with the simple and tune your PCM. Your going to have to tune your PCM after your replace you Cam anyways. I would not waist my time sticking one in if you had to spend much money to buy one. But if you can get one for free or very little, it would be worth the gaskets to install if you are on a budget. The LS1 cam in a 4.8 is worth about 15HP and will make mods like headers and cold air intakes work even better with a tuned PCM.

The LS1 cam is basically the same as the 6.0L's. The 6.0ls work well with the later LS6 cam because there 317 heads are based on the 243's. The GM hot cam is pretty good for the 4.8l/5.3l as well.

Stock LM7 cam: 190/191 .466/457 114
Stock LQ4 cam: 196/207,116,.497/.467
Stock LQ9 cam: 201/196 .479/467 116 LSA
Stock '01-02 LS6 also '04-'05 LS2: 204/211 .525 .525 116.5 LSA
Stock '03-'04 LS6: 204/218 .551 .547 116 LSA

And these cams don't really wear out as they are roller cams. :D

As mentioned earlier, start with the simple and have your PCM tuned for better performance and economy. Here is one of the best places to get your PCM tuned http://www.pcmforless.com/. Give them a call and they'll be more then happy to answer any questions you may have. ;)

Okay thanks I probably should of mentioned I have a superchips tuner, k&n intake, and true duals. The headers are coming soon. Do you know where I could buy cams at?

Try a speed shop that deals with Camaro's and Corvette. There is always a LS1 that had it's cam replaced with a larger one and the old one (used) is always around or they would know the person who may still have it. Other then that Don't for get to replace your Torque Converter with a higher stall speed to match the Cam.

A custom tuned (new computer) like stated above is by far the best way to gain hp. Nothing else compares to a custom tune. Any hand held tuner doesn't hold a candle to it. I've got a http://www.hptuners.com/index.php by the way.
