hello all. I have been searching on here and only finding bits and pieces.

I would like to know if a malfunction in the transmission can cause problems with the A/C system... Or vice versa.

the back story.
I saved a 96 jimmy from the wrecking yard june 2012 from a friend of an acquaintance for $100!
I was told it had a "blown trans" and that he (the previous owner) wasn't strong enough to fix it so it was on its way to the heap. and that they had taken the battery and radiator for their blazer.

couldn't tell me what it was doing, only that it was "blown" and that he had started the removal process.

my wife and I towed it back to my house with a cable and my moms suburban. i learned a lesson about removing the driveline later on, once I removed the transmission.

bought a new unit from some guy on craigslist for 300 (I know, I know... but just the facts right now) and new radiator and battery from knechts.

when I installed the new radiator, I noticed that the truck is equipped with A/C... except its missing the compressor pump and a pulley is in its place. the hoses were zip tied out of the way.

when I pulled the trans, I noticed that the unit had a label that said "GM goodwrench certified remanufactured" that was odd, I thought to myself. that means this truck has already been through TWO transmissions. at this point she's only got 142,000 miles.

back on the road and summer comes. "boy, I really wish I had a/c" I think to myself. I manage to pick up a pump from upull it during a half price holiday weekend sale.
while researching the vacuum evacuation and recharge process, I decide that since its September already and that I can tough it out until next year.

then I lose third and fourth gear while driving on the highway. during my research for a torque converter I stumbled onto some info about how the a/c can affect shifting. also about the output seal leaking into the transfer case and forcing transmission fluid into the vacuum lines causing a/c controller faults.

I am having my transmission rebuilt and would hate to burn through yet another one. could this be something related to the a/c system causing a trans failure? or something that could haunt me later when I restore the a/c system? or is it possible that a transmission failure could have caused someone to delete the a/c system?

any information is greatly appreciated. I value all that others have posted on here and just want to make sure that I can give back by sharing my errors as well as success. thanks.

i think I found my answer after a few hours of searching...

I will investigate further as to how bad my vacuum system is messed up tomorrow.
i'm sure that buying a used/unknown mileage trans off craigslist and slapping on a B&M shift improver kit had nothing to do with my 3/4 clutch pack getting charbequed. (ha, yea right)

like I said. share my mistakes so others can learn. shopping for the proper torque converter now but that will be on a different thread.
