Hi i just purchased a 03 sonoma. So far it seems to be ok except it shifts hard from 1st to 2nd really hard, the fuel guage and temp guage dont seem to want to work right. Sometimes they will read 1/2 tank of fuel and about 220 when i get in the truck. Then when i go to start it they will fall flat. If anyone can help me with this lil problem it would be appreciated

Can't help you with the gauge problem. Sounds like a ground problem, but you'll have to spend some time with a wiring diagram to figure out what these two gauges have in common, and then do some troubleshooting.

The transmission problem doesn't sound good. I had the same problem with mine, and to make a long story short, the solution was a new transmission. When a 700R4 gets old and worn out, the clutch material gums up the governor, causing the hard 1-2 shift. The only good solution is a new transmission.

Start with the simple and inspect your TPS, Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, replace. This is one common issues that will cause hard shifting, the other cause would be low on transmission fluid or a failed EPC valve which is a easy fix.

As for the other issues, inspect for corrosion to your wire harness from the top of the gas tank to the frame. Snow and dirt collect in that area and plays a big roll in the issues your having with your gas gauge, but if the sending unit is more then 8 years old. Good chance its the sending unit going bad, r to add some injector cleaner in to your gas tank for a few fill up and see if that helps. The sending unit that measures the resistance to the fuel level could be dirty and at worst worn out.

Keep us posted and be safe. :D

Certainly possible but I'm sceptical. Experience tells me otherwise. Smell your transmission fluid. If it smells burnt, you're in the market for a new trans, or of course, a rebuild, but my advice would be to get one straight from GM. Not real expensive (under $2000) and comes with a 2 year warranty, and you know its built right.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I have somethin to go on. I did repair one of my issues,i replaced my thermostat & ECT(engine coolant temp )sensor. Now my temp guage works great. As far as the fuel guage i think im going to replace the entire fuel sending unit, fuel pump and all.My pump is making a loud whining noise. i had a 96 model once & it did the same thing. I pulled in the driveway and it quit on me. It was the fuel pump. Guage works fine with a half tank or more of fuel but when it gets down to a quarter or less thats when the fun begins
