"Change Engine Oil" Warning

I've got a 2003 Sierra 4x4 base model. The "Change Engine Oil" warning came up on the electronic display a few months ago and I can't seem to turn it off or reset it

The owner's manual says to press and hold the button (there is only one) when the message is displayed. This doesn't seem to work

Am I missing something?

My truck doesn't have any of the fancy gas mileage displays or engine oil life options - just a basic odometer, hourmeter.

turn key to on (engine not running) pump gas pedal to the floor 3 times in 5 seconds. this will reset the light.
