Changing the daytime running lamps in my 2001 GMC Sierra 1500.?

Purchased two new bulbs and installed them, still nothing. The night lamps are always on day and night. What should I do to get the day lamps on during the day and night lamps on at night?

there is a lamp control knob on the left side of dash,leave the control set in the totally horizontal position,that points to a circle imprinted on dash. this causes the night lights to come on from a sensor on the top of dash. the daytime running lights won't work until truck is in the driving mode(hence running) if this doesn't cure problem,look under hood,find fuse/breaker/relay module locate fuse or relay that serves d. r. l.,if bad replace it.
