I have a 2001 2500 HD Sierra with an Allison tranny. I have approx. 225,000 miles on it and have never (I know, I know, save the lectures) changed the tranny fluid. I know I need to change it and was wondering what would be involved. I see on my tranny a drain bolt and an exterior filter. Is it that simple or am I in for alot more work? TIA!!!

Nope, it's that simple and you may want to replace the transmission fluid with synthetic transmission fluid. They keep there properties much better and will buy you more life to your transmission with the proper service intervals.

Good luck and please keep us posted on your transmission service project. :D

Thanks Molson, I, like everyone else, have heard those horror stories about changing high mileage tranny fluid and then the tranny goes out. I think I'll tackle it this weekend and let you know.

As long as you don't do a transmission flush you should be good to go. I got over 365,000 miles on my transmission and i have been using TranSynd synthetic transmission fluid, since i just use the ones from the garage for the Coach bus i drive.

Check your manual on the type of transmission fluid you have, most Allison transmission come with TranSyn synthetic transmission fluid from the factory. Good luck and hope this helps and stay clean. :D
