Have an 03 Siverado 2500 with the 6.6, Just recently i have noticed that when i start it after sitting over night it will not start charging until i increase RPM's a couple of times. When the guage goes to around 14 volts finally and the headlights and everything brighten up and all is good.

This issue has just started in the last 2 weeks. I can"t take it to the local auto parts store and have the charging system checked because after about a mile all is normal.

Battery's are a year old.
Belt is a year old.

If anyone else has had this issue please point me in the right direction! Don't want to get stranded!!

Q- when you say " after a mile all is normal " , does that mean you
can shut it off and then on restart it immediately jumps
to 14 volts ?

Yes - After the cold start everything is fine. It only happens after truck sits overnight. and it's not a gradual climb. it's like you flipped a switch to start charging!

This maybe the way that your alternator is designed to work, some alternators do not start charging untill they see 2K rpm (rpm at the alternator, not the engine rpm). You usually run across this in heavy equipment, when you start you have to snap rev the engine to get the charging system to start to work. I have not heard that they were using these regulators in automotives.
