My girl friends 5th fan speed went out then the fan stopped working on her 2005 Envoy xl, I suggested letting me trying to fix before sending to shop. Found this site and replaced the resistor pack as suggested, Ac and fan started working fine, but no 5th speed. I had burnt the 40 amp fuse while cutting out the welded pig tail to resistor. Repaced fuse, Ac and all speeds worked great. I did not see lights showing the Ac was on and thought I may have burnt a dash fuse. All dash fuses seemed fine, so I checked all fuses with a tester. I had to remove a couple of relays to test all the fuses as well as pulling a couple of fuses that I could not test with tester. Again all looked fine. Now the truck would start but would die, start then die. Was suggested I reset onboard computer so I disconnected battery for 30 min. Then the motor would not start at all. Gave up and had the Envoy towed to garage. The garage found no codes, but said the fuel pump relay was missing. I can't see myself pulling a relay and not putting it back as soon as I tested the fuse or fuses it was blocking, even though it was 107 degrees in the part store parking lot and my brain was running a little warm. put a new relay where "they" said one was needed and the Envoy started right up. Great!!! Ran fine all day yesterday, started many times like a charm. This morning, nothing. I think the relay was not missing and somehow we tricked the truck into running. Went to GM dealer and asked mechanic about what had been done and what the symptoms are. He suggested we had lost the security code. Could this of been my problem from the start? When I pulled relays and fuses did I lose the security code? He suggested trying to start, leave key on for 10 mins and doing this three times to reset code. Tried this and still nothing. Sorry for the lengthy post but thought hopefully giving the full story to this problem might help me save the poor girl another tow to another garage. all because I thought I could fix her blower resistor.
