Greetings,
My issue is, my mileage has gone from 15 to 10. I have replaced plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I replaced the thermostat, this was not the issue since to old one opened at 195, as it should. I am replacing the sensor to see if my gauge will show the correct temperature.

Searching this forum for this information has yielded me nothing useful. Search ignores 3 letter arguments! How silly since most acronyms are 3 letters! MAF, TPS, IAC, etc.

Okay, I have a 1992 GMC C2500 with a 5.7L. The mass air flow sensor is mounted on the passenger side valve cover. Is this cleanable? It has a plug and a vacuum line to it. MAF's that I have cleaned have been mounted in the intake tube. With type of MAF, you can see the wire and spray MAF cleaner on them. Is this unit cleanable or does it have to be replaced?

After cleaning of the MAF or replacing, does the battery need to be disconnected for 10 minutes?
Thanks,
-Dave

I did not know the had MAF sensors on 92, thought those came with OBDII in 1996?

GM had MAF sensors in the early-mid 80's in camaros and firebirds and other models with fuel injection. though i am not extremely familiar with the 92 2500's i dont think it has a MAF because i think its Throttle body injected. i could be wrong, i had a 1500(same model year and engine) with throttle body injection no MAF. Great truck never had any mechanical issues. as far as your MPG, double check tire pressure, replace fuel filter if its due as well as air filter. Good luck with the issue, sorry i couldnt be more helpful.

it's not a mass air flow sensor. it's a Map sensor ( Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor) Do not clean it or you will replace it.

Thanks all
Correct, it is a MAP not a MAF.

Tire pressure is 60 lbs. Air filter is new. Haven't checked the fuel filter. If is was plugged, lose of power has been my usual issue.
Plan on running sea foam in the gas.
