Hey Team,

I'm new to the forums and new to these trucks. I just bought my first truck, a 2001 GMC Sierra. It needs a little bit of TLC but it still runs good. I'm tuning it up and last night when I changed the oil, I noticed some red color in the oil. I pulled the drain plug and then I left to work on the tail gate. When I came back the oil was totally drained. I heard if there is coolant in the engine, it will drain first? Unfortunately I didn't stick around long enough to find out. There isn't two separate layers in the oil or anything, it's just slightly red. I checked the overflow tank for oil, and didn't see any, but I will check again. It looks more like transmission fluid to me. Is there anyway to tell if the transmission is leaking? I've heard of some people adding a quart of transmission fluid when they change the oil to help clean? I left a message with the guy I bought it off of to see if he did this, but until then I'm remaining cautious. I've googled this and came back with oil cooler or intake manifold leak. Anyway to check these and any suggestions or tips are welcomed. Thanks!
