Coolant temp

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra and I noticed the coolant temp was up
from what it normally the last few days but today the check coolant temp light came on. I was wondering is this the thermostat or the coolant sensor problem I'm not sure. has anyone else run into this problem?

sounds like you have a leak... or the sensor has gone bad...

If you stat is sticking closed it will overheat. When it does that, touch the upper rad hose. If its warm the stat is not stuck closed, if its cold the stat is closed, replace.
