The other evening, after coming off of a highway into stop light traffic my car started jumping at the start when accelerating from a stop light. Then it startled idling real rough and feeling like it was stalling out on me. I actually had to restart it once. The check engine light came on and the next morning I took it into the shop. Through diagnostic tests they determined it was a "lean condition" and said the problem was my vac tube, which they replaced. The most expensive part of the job was the diagnostic testing.
I drove the truck straight from the shop to my evening job and when I left work late that night it was doing the same thing, it was fine on the highway then when I got back into town, idling at the stop lights it was still feeling like it was stalling out.
I did not drive it all weekend and called the mechanic to tell him I was having the same problems and would bring it back. On my way to work (mechanic in the same town as job) I noticed it was not idling rough, it was not until I got off the highway that it started jumping a bit off the start.
I decided against bringing it back into the shop and instead picked up a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and had the gas station put it in when they filled up my tank. Could this be the issue? Has this happened to anyone before?
I have a 1996 GMC Jimmy - 98,000 miles.
