i have a 99 350 with the 700r4 sometimes drives fine, sometime stays in one gear whole time usually 3rd or overdrive and spedo and tach dont work , and sometimes spedo ant tach do work and its stuck in 3rd or od. loww miles on new engine almost 200 on 700r4 engine was replaced by shitty mech? ne ideas not sure yet if the tranny and cluster problem are sepreate same or related. i hear the cluster thing is common.

OK not sure if you mean 89 or 99. IN the 89 which will have the 700R4 check the TV cable adjustment and the governor gear which can cause the issues your describing. Most of all check the TV cable to ensure it's adjusted properly or your gong to cook your transmission within a few weeks.

IN the 99 your going to have the 4L60E which is the same as the 700R4 but is electronically controlled to shift gears and send electrical signals for the speedometer. In the later 700R4 which may include yours, i think you do have a Vehicle Speed sensor just like the 4L60E which faulty can cause what you have described.
