At 40,000 miles the DEF reservoir on my 2011 GMC 2500 HD was replaced. At that time I argued with GMC that it was covered under warranty (emissions) even thought the Texas GMC dealer at the time said it wasn't covered. GMC agreed. Since then I've had one NOX sensor replaced (under warranty).
At just under 124,00 miles, the DEF reservoir had to be replaced again. Fortunately, we were within a 2-hour drive from the dealer where the truck was purchased in Tucson.
It was then that I learned that GMC had a special extended warranty on the DEF reservoir which extended it to 120,000 miles - but of course, the truck was just over the limit at under 123,000 miles. My argument with GMC is that since the unit they now cover with an extended warranty of 120,000 miles...that the clock should have started ticking for my truck from the 40,000 mile mark when the original unit was first replaced.
The dealer did a great job and I have no complaints there - in fact, the service rep suggested that I contact GMC customer care (which I've tried to do via this forum via private message with two people I've contacted in the past at GMC - but so far have been ignored).
My questions to the group: have any of you experienced similar DEF issues? The service rep said that issues were not just with 2011 models but later models as well. And, does anyone have a direct number for contacting GMC customer service?
Thanks in advance.
