Bought a 1998 GMC Savana cargo van yesterday, 5L Vortec, 127,000. Runs well, tracks well but was probably used intermittently by the seller. I have belonged to several forums over the years and help has always been incredible from the other members, looking forward to that here.
I'm in Sacramento, CA, licensed general contractor, know more about tearing apart houses but am always willing to do my own repair work on the van. My current questions are:
Are there threads of specific knowledge, such as oil/fluid maintenance? In other words, who runs what oil and is changing from conventional to synthetic or a synthetic blend at 127k a good or bad idea. Alzo, stepping up to 10w-30 from 5w-30 which my 200k Astro liked a lot?
Howbout a thread for tune-ups? Will throw in new plugs, wire set, rotor this week. Info on what replacement rotors, wire sets, plugs, etc work well would be very helpful
AC thread? AC not cold. How do I check if it just needs a a charge or a new compressor?
