I have two issues that I suspect are related. Last winter my defrost could not keep up, and very little warm air was coming out of the vent. The problem was that the mode door's hinge rod was broken off, so the actuator motor had nothing to grab onto. So I took a wire and stuck it down the vent by the windshield, and physically closed (or opened) the mode door. I don't know if I closed it or opened it, but the defrost started working well at that point.
Then comes summer. I didn't want cold A/C air coming out by the windshield, so I pulled the wire out. The issue now is that the rear A/C will not blow cold air at all. It basically blows cabin air, which will slowly cool as the cabin air cools, but it never gets as cold as the dashboard air. I called a service shop, and without me describing any of the shenanigans with with the wire or the broken mode door, they speculated that the rear air problem was due to a blend door issue.
I don't know how I could possibly fix the mode door issue without replacing the entire air box. Any suggestions?
