So I have developed a delay of up to 4 seconds when shifting from P to R or D or when shifting from R to D or D to R. This is a problem because after 139.000 I was used to moving my foot from the brake to the accelerator and just going. Now, the RPMs go up THEN the trans engages - very bad. Any ideas?

Do you have a Haynes manual for your year model? They have some good trouble shooting tips. Could be the shift cable? But it sounds more like a clutch problem to me. Yikes. I had my valve body cleaned out not long ago and it smoothed out things a little bit, but I don't think that will help you much. If I were you I'd buy a cheap code reader and plug it in and look up the codes. If it's a sensor of some sort (like a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)), that could save you money rather than having work done on your trans. Good luck! I have a used 2012 with 150k. Small trans problems started showing up not long after I bought it, but still running so far.

It sound like you transmission fluid is low. First thing to do is check the fluid level, according to your owners manual, also check color of your transmission fluid, it should be blood red and not brownish red. It could be you transmission fluid and filter needing to be change, when you have a delay in shifting it is because it need to build up pressure to activate the shift mechanism, or slippage with the torque converter.
