I'm needing to find out how much rear differential fluid I will need.

I'm going to use a synthetic 75w-90 GL5. Most likely a Mobil 1 unless I hear otherwise.

One more thing. Will I need any new seals for the drain and fill plugs? My trucks got 154,000 miles so I figure it's time to get this stuff changed. I never thought it would be this difficult to find the info : )

rear axle need 3 qts, need rear cover gasket.

Tip DO NOT drain the fluid till you make sure you can remove the filler plug, if you can't get the plug out you won't be able to refill it.

Here is a write up on changing rear axle lube on a new body style, the cover and fill location on your truck may be different. Remove cover to drain fluid, if you cover if not like this one then the fill plug is located on pass side on the driveshaft side, a pipe plug. Changing differential fluid may not seem like something a novice can do, but in reality it's very easy.

75W-90 Synthetic fluid specified by GM. If you have a G80 locking rear differential as seen in the pics l DO NOT use any additive no matter what anyone tells you as they are WRONG.

You can lookup capacities HERE
